Compared to Windows Defender, Kaspersky Free clearly is a resource hog. The computer definitely feels smoother with just Windows Defender, which is a bit odd because AV-Comparatives listed Defender as having way higher performance impact than Kaspersky (in fact, way higher performance than pretty much every other AV).
It's even worse when it comes to downloads. I go down from about 900/450 (down/up) to 700/300 on Speedtest, which is unacceptable. Also, compared to Defender, Kaspersky lags the computer horribly during the speedtest, taking like 30% of the CPU.
The thing I liked about Kaspersky is that according to AV-Comparitives, it's pretty much the best: lightweight and very good protection. That's clearly not been my finding though, in terms of performance impact. I do like the fact that it doesn't have any ads, something I absolutely despised about Avira when I was using it, not to mention the fact that it installed like 5 software.
Kaspersky Total Security 2019 Slowing Down Computer
I might try Bitdefender, but I've also heard horror stories about it so there is that, though some people really like it and it does pretty well in tests. I guess I could try ESET as well, but it doesn't seem to be doing too good when it comes to protection, in fact it seems worse than Defender which defeats the point.
Kaspersky Slows Down Computer Windows 7
What's the deal here? Prior to Kaspersky and Avira, I also used AVG and Avast, which seem to have become worse as well. I was really happy with Kaspersky, until I noticed the performance impact.. I might as well just stick to Windows Defender at this rate.

This makes me VERY nervous and consequently I don't.
*Re Registry Cleaners -
Registry Cleaners are often considered to be helpful.
If you don't have knowledge of the registry please avoid them.
Registry cleaners can cause loss of functionality and/or system instability.
